From Laura Todd (she/they), the Assistant Director for Spiritual Wellness:

Greetings! Welcome to Albion College and our Spiritual Life webpages. As the Assistant Director for Spiritual Wellness, I give spiritual guidance and mentorship to students, facilitate spiritual and religious life on campus, and provide resources for spiritual growth and wellness. In my role, I work to listen deeply, meet students where they are, and think outside the box to assist them in their religious and spiritual growth. The events I facilitate include vigils, services, and discussions. I work with campus leaders and local community members to meet student needs. My role is currently housed under the Office of Belonging, but I am also a member of the wellness committee (Office of Integrated Wellness).

Set up an appointment or stop by during my office hours to talk through ideas and concerns, pray, relax or meditate with spiritual wellness sensory/play items, or just to chat over a cup of tea.

Albion College Introductory Bio:

“We are happy to welcome Laura Todd as the Assistant Director for Spiritual Wellness. Laura brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in interfaith work and advocacy.

Prior to coming to Albion, Laura served as the spiritual formation intern at Vanderbilt Divinity School. In that role, she co-facilitated a spiritual formation community group, led virtual events, and crafted resources, such as a regular spiritual newsletter.

An active voice, Laura also interned at the LGBTQI Center at Vanderbilt University. There, she designed a health and wellness curriculum for LGBTQI students at Vanderbilt. Additionally, she revised recommended language for questions about gender in surveys, collected and evaluated resources about faith, sexuality, and gender, and helped in creating a safe and welcoming environment for all who walked through the doors.

Laura also worked for a year at the Center for Interfaith Cooperation in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she networked with local faith-based organizations, designed and led staff workshops, and co-led initiatives such as an interfaith women’s affinity group. In her hometown of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, she participated in advocacy efforts for racial, LGBTQ+, and environmental justice.

Laura earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and Religious Studies from Guilford College in 2016. While at Guilford, Laura received the Judith Weller Harvey Campus Ministry Award. She later went on to receive a Master of Divinity degree from Vanderbilt Divinity School in the spring of 2021.

The Assistant Director for Spiritual Wellness position is a new position and reimagines the chaplaincy position on campus. This position is part of the Office of Integrated Wellness team and will work closely with the faith leaders in the City of Albion, counseling services, and student faith groups on campus.”
