Music

Studying music at Albion means surrounding yourself with other musicians whose passion is uplifting.

At Albion, you’ll find new opportunities every day to put your love of music into action. Find your community within the 150+ students in our ensembles, take private lessons, or participate in one of many student-led performance organizations. Study overseas, intern at the Lyric Opera of Chicago or expand your horizons studying music in New York City.

The music department offers courses for a broad range of students—from those who aspire to a musical career to those who wish to develop their interests in music. We offer courses in performance, music theory, conducting, and the history of rock ‘n’ roll, to name a few. Through your study, you will develop important communication and performance competencies, learn new research methods, build on your creative and emotional expression, and develop transferable skills in arts administration, marketing and more.

When you major in music at Albion, you can prepare to share your love of music with the world through one of three pathways. Our flexible degree program prepares students for a wide variety of musical careers, from arts administration to production or music entrepreneurship. You can also choose to follow your purpose and ignite the passion for music in others by majoring in music with an emphasis on performance, or inspire the next generation through the music education emphasis, which will prepare you to teach music in grades K-12 for public and private schools. Whatever path you choose, music will only enhance your journey forward.

Music Major

Our approach to music bridges disciplines, just like the art of music itself.

As a music major, you’ll also study the science of music, drama, poetry, dance, historical and sociological trends, and religious and philosophical ideas.

Whether you hope to pursue a career in music or simply want to develop as a musician, you can choose from multiple courses of study based on your interests and goals. Albion College is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
