Explore Your Future at Albion College
Discover your passion through our Centers and Institutes.
Josh Cassada, ’95, our first Albion college graduate in space, is preparing to explore where no Brit has gone before. The former physics major, now NASA astronaut, is part of Crew 5 set to launch for the International Space Station next week. While at Albion, Josh made the most of the opportunities offered as part of his liberal arts education and built a solid foundation from which to launch and land among the stars.
At Albion College, you, too, can explore your future today. Our five institutes and centers — made up of a closely knit group of highly motivated students, faculty and staff — provide you with the opportunity to examine your interests firsthand in a hands-on learning environment while giving you the skills, experience and knowledge you need to do anything, go anywhere and be successful. Even to outer space.
Whether your focus is business, public policy, racial equality, medicine or the environment, the institutes and centers give you a way to accelerate your future. Each institute and center welcomes students regardless of degree path. Gain access to assistance with career exploration, graduate school admission and the advantage of a lifelong alumni network.
Centers and Institutes
Carl A. Gerstacker Institute for Business and Management
At the Gerstacker Business Institute, you will prove your business worth long before graduation. The faculty and staff at the Institute will prepare you for the professional world and beyond. You will have access to first-hand experience by networking with visiting executives, and gain leadership and business skills through off-campus study and internships at major corporations, accounting firms, small businesses, start-ups and nonprofit organizations.
The Gerald R. Ford Institute for Public Policy and Service
Your contribution to society begins at the Gerald R. Ford Institute for Public Policy and Service at Albion College. Here, you will have the chance to pursue your passion for public policy and community leadership. Through a combination of classroom and hands-on learning, you will learn how to advocate on issues important to you while performing the hard work of making the world a better place.
The Lisa and James Wilson Medical Institute
The Wilson Medical Institute is an experience most students have to wait for four years for — after their undergraduate degree is complete. But not at Albion College. Here, you don’t have to wait to make an impact in medicine. The Wilson Medical Institute is designed to give you an accelerated path and first-hand experience in the medical sciences. You’ll receive academic advising and assistance with real-world clinical experience, along with gaining access to an extensive alumni network. The Wilson Medical Institute gives you the opportunities needed to be successful in future healthcare careers in dentistry, medicine, veterinary medicine, physician assistant studies, nursing and allied health professions — today.
The Center for Sustainability and the Environment (CSE)
At Albion College, we empower students to be environmental and social change-makers through the Center for Sustainability and the Environment (CSE). CSE cultivates imagination, knowledge and leadership for those seeking to protect and sustain the environment in their lives, actions and through impactful careers. CSE provides you with a wide range of opportunities to engage in and lead environmental and sustainability projects that are locally based, focusing on the campus and local communities, but recognizing that the environment knows no boundaries.
The James L. Curtis Institute for Race and Belonging (JLC)
You are here, you are understood and who you are matters. You have always asked the hard questions. You stand up. You stand out. You make your concerns known. You’re interested in learning more about racial injustice, why it is still a problem and how we can work together to overcome it. The James L. Curtis Institute for Race and Belonging explores and promotes the possibilities of hope, reparative action and constructive community engagement as guiding principles toward a racially just world. JLC is an interdisciplinary institute that allows all students, faculty and staff to support and serve.
Where can JLC take me?
JLC can take you to the best place to be: A better understanding of you! Curtis is all about you. Your place in society. Your desire to make the world a place of belonging where all feel they have a voice and that voice can be heard. JLC offers a springboard to launch your commitment to improving race relations in our nation and beyond. Where can JLC take you; towards creating a better, more diverse, and equitable society.
