Lawrence B. Schook, ’72

Education: B.A., Albion College, 1972. M.S. and Ph.D., Wayne State University, 1978. Postdoctoral Training, Institute for Clinical Immunology, Switzerland and University of Michigan, 1978-1981.

Dr. Lawrence Schook is recognized internationally in comparative genomics and in furthering the understanding of genetic diseases. He previously served the University of Illinois as vice president for research, senior officer and professor of animal sciences; in that role, Schook was responsible for $1 billion in external annual research funding,

In addition to his research, Schook served on the Board of Governors for the Argonne and Fermi National Laboratories as well as for the National Academies of Science Institute for Laboratory Animal Research. He has also held faculty appointments in bioengineering, nutritional sciences and pathology, written more than 300 published documents and edited six books.

His Albion College involvement includes: Men’s Basketball, Sigma Nu, Student Senate, admissions volunteer, past class agent, DAA Winner, 1997 externship mentor, Elkin R. Isaac Student Research Symposium 2012, mentor program volunteer and National Volunteer Network.

Schook and his wife, Frances, reside in Chicago, IL. They have three grown children, Karl, Paul and Carolyn, and seven grandchildren.
