Check-In Process for Returning Students

We are looking forward to welcoming students back to campus for the 2021-22 academic year. Our return-to-campus plan for the fall 2021 semester includes:

  • A full return to face-to-face instruction
  • A full return to in-person services across campus
  • A return to more “normal” dining experiences
  • A rich and active menu of activities and initiatives from the Office of Campus Life, Community Living, and other departments across campus
  • In-person athletic schedules and activities, including less restrictive spectator policies, consistent with the most current guidelines from the NCAA and the MIAA
  • No restrictions on visiting between residential communities

Below is an overview of the check-in process for returning Albion College students. Please review this information thoroughly so you are ready for a smooth return to campus.

Pre-Arrival Expectations

Student Vaccination Requirement Toggle Accordion

The College has implemented a Vaccination Requirement for students. This requirement must be met before you return to campus for the fall semester. All students will need to present proof of vaccination or complete a waiver request by August 1, 2021. Proof of vaccination or waiver requests should be submitted to Melissa Sommers ([email protected]). Albion’s full COVID-19 vaccine policy is available for your review (an albion.edu email address is required to view).

Arrival Process

Step One - The Check-In Process Toggle Accordion

Student Development staff have worked with other offices across campus to create a centralized check-in process at the Kellogg Center.  All residential and non-residential students are required to complete this process as their first step when arriving at Albion.

  • The date and time frame for upperclass students to return to campus is Saturday, August 28, 2021, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.  In order to provide a smooth and efficient experience for you, we are once again requiring students to sign up for a time to return to campus to successfully complete the check-in process. Check-in times are in one-hour time slots, and you can select your time online.  Space is limited in each of the time blocks.
  • Students who have been approved for an exemption to the College residency requirement are required to participate in the August 28, 2021, check-in process.
  • The Office of Community Living will send a reminder to your Albion email address 48 hours before your scheduled check-in time block.

Arrival Procedures Toggle Accordion

  • When you arrive on campus, proceed to the Ferguson Student, Technology, and Administrative Services Building parking lot. This parking lot will be reserved all day for upperclass student arrivals. Students must go to the Kellogg Center immediately upon arriving and before proceeding to their residential assignment.
  • The Kellogg Center check-in process is designed as a “one-stop” experience for your success as an Albion student. This process will include meeting representatives from a variety of key College offices to ensure you have completed all College forms and submit the required information. The following offices will be present to welcome and assist you: Accounting, Financial Aid, Cutler Center, Community Living, Information Technology, Campus Safety, and Office of Integrated Wellness.
  • There is no need to update your College ID from last year; all students will receive a new College ID and room key (if needed) during the check-in process.

Please note this is a change from previous years. Students living on campus must first go to the Kellogg Center to complete the check-in process before moving into their residential assignment.

Step Two - Moving your personal belongings into your residential building Toggle Accordion

At the conclusion of the check-in process in the Kellogg Center, residential students may then proceed to their residential building to move into their room or apartment.  Staff will be present to assist you and answer any questions you may have.

Students are permitted to have others assist with moving belongings into their residential assignment. However, these helpers (if not fully vaccinated) must not have been in close contact with a COVID-19 positive person within the previous 10 days, and must not be experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 when they arrive on campus.

Students Required to Return to Campus Prior To August 28, 2021

There are students who are required to return to campus prior to August 28, 2021, for athletics, marching band, or other programs. These students will also need to complete a central check-in process when they arrive on campus. The Office of Community Living will send a separate communication to these students with dates, times, and other details regarding their check-in process.

Upperclass students who are not able to return to campus on August 28 due to emergency circumstances: please contact the Office of Community Living ([email protected]) to discuss your circumstances to determine if an exception may be granted. Please note that students who arrive outside of the August 28 check-in period will not be allowed to move into their residential building until they are approved by the Office of Community Living.

Summer Storage Items

For students who were approved to participate in the College’s Summer Storage program, the summer storage items will be delivered to student rooms before students return to campus.
