Flexible Housing
Flexible Housing at Albion College
At Albion, we believe every student deserves a safe and affirming place to live. Flexible Housing is available for students who wish to live with roommates regardless of gender identity or expression. This housing option supports students of all identities, including those who are transgender, nonbinary, gender non-conforming, or allies looking for a supportive living environment.
Key Features
- Voluntary: Flexible Housing is 100% optional. You’ll never be placed in flexible housing without your consent.
- Student-Directed: You can request to live with any student, regardless of gender, as long as all parties agree.
- Available Campus-Wide: Flexible Housing options are available in all residence halls and apartment communities across campus.
- Privacy-Respecting: We ask students to share their gender identity on the housing form to help with assignments. This information is only reviewed by professional staff and is kept strictly confidential.
- Romantic Partners: While students may request to live with someone of any gender, the Office of Community Living does not recommend that romantic partners live together, as it can add challenges to both the relationship and the residential experience.
Don't Have a Roommate?
That’s okay! If you’re interested in Flexible Housing but don’t have a specific roommate in mind, the Office of Community Living will use your responses from the housing form to help match you with a roommate. If we need more information to ensure a good match, someone from our team will reach out to you directly.
