Snyder, ’14, Honored in Rhode Island for Victim Advocacy

Rebekah Snyder, ’14, was honored for her advocacy work by Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Kilmartin on April 13.

Rebekah Snyder, ’14, was recognized by Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Kilmartin as one of four 2016 state honorees during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week for her advocacy work.

Snyder earned her B.A. in psychology with a minor in religious studies at Albion and is pursuing her master’s degree in forensic psychology at Roger Williams University.

She was honored for her work with Day One, a 24-hour help line offering confidential support, information and advocacy services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking.

In the last year, as an intern and volunteer, Snyder managed the help line as the interim advocacy coordinator and, working with local colleges and universities, created the RI Campus Sexual Assault Guide for college survivors of sexual assault. It’s the only guide of its kind in the state.

She is also an active member of the state Sexual Assault Task Force and works with the Roger Williams Student Conduct and Community Standards Program.

Snyder and the other honorees were celebrated April 13 during a ceremony in Providence.

“The compassion and dedication of the individuals we honor today has given hope to countless victims of crime, and I am humbled to recognize their contributions,” Kilmartin said at the ceremony.
