Peter Valdina

Stanley S. Kresge Associate Professor of Religious Studies, Interim Faculty Director of the Curtis Institute

Dr. Valdina has taught at Albion College since 2012, and he is a scholar of the history of yoga in 19th-century India. He is particularly interested in 19th-century print translations of yoga texts and how they relate to the question of yoga’s globalization in the modern world.

He has been a guest lecturer at Furman university and has published an article titled “Yoga and Xenophilia: Ambiguity Now and Then.”

He speaks and reads a variety of languages including Hindi, Bengali, Sanskrit and German and he teaches courses including Thinking about Religion; Introduction to Islam; Hinduism; Yogis and Ascetics; Women, Gender, Islam; and Death and Dying.
