El’Verson Mitchell
Counselor
Office of Integrated Wellness
El’verson Mitchell received a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan in 2021 with a focus on interpersonal practice in integrated health, mental health, and substance use. He graduated from Albion in the class of 2020 with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Psychology while minoring Sociology/Anthropology with a concentration in Human services. He has a specialization to work in K-12 Public Schools in the state of Michigan. He has experience in providing therapeutic services to at-risk and adjudicated youth and families, throughout Wayne County. A large portion of his interventions are focused on building a client’s capacities to acknowledge their emotions, identify patterns, improve their interpersonal relationships and recognize their avoidant behaviors. Using a foundation of Psychodynamic and Humanistic theory, he can comfortably engage with clients who had particular challenges with trauma, neglect, or abuse in their early childhood that manifested in risky or problematic behaviors. As a therapist El’verson feels his job is to create a space safe enough for the client to experience an environment that allows them to feel comfortable and vulnerable enough to take risks with challenging or changing thought/behaviors that causes them impairment or distress.
