“The Role of Higher Education in Nurturing Sustainable Communities” conference at Albion College seeks to provide opportunities for faculty, administrators, students, and community leaders to join in conversation to share their successes and innovations, to pose questions, to solve problems, and to identify new directions for building sustainable university-community partnerships through interactive sessions.

Areas Of Interest And Conference Tracks

Submissions should reflect ways in which colleges and universities develop partnerships with their communities and also develop the leaders of tomorrow. Your proposal should fit within one or more of the following conference tracks:

Sustaining community partnerships

Examples of partnerships built between institutions of higher education and their communities.

Local-to-Global connections in the classroom

Examples of successful collaborations between institutions in different countries in the classroom or in the research realm, with a focus on students’ experience. These collaborations may include engagement with local or global communities.

From community-engaged work to a career

Examples of programs, courses, etc. that help students transition from being a student engaged with community-based work to a career with the same focus and using the same skills.

Conference Format

General Sessions

30-minute interactive presentations that include questions and discussion. Preference will be given to sessions that actively engage participants and reflect a depth and breadth of experience.

Student Poster

“Poster” presentations that highlight student community-focused work or community-engaged research. Posters might include a printed poster (maximum 48″ x 48″/122 cm x 122 cm), slides on a tablet, or other visuals that can share your story with a small group. Poster tacks provided.

Submission

All proposals must be submitted electronically by using the online proposal submission form. Incomplete proposals will not be considered.

The submission deadline for Student Posters is February 18, 2022. We are still accepting student poster submissions.

Travel Grants

Travel support will be available to accepted presenters from the non-U.S. members of the Global Liberal Arts Alliance.  The amounts will depend on the number of accepted presenters from non-US partner institutions. Information will be provided to qualified presenters.
