Winter Break

The Office of Residential Life is committed to a smooth Fall 2020 closing process to support students traveling home safely for the 2020-2021 Winter Break. 

Staff from the Office of Residential Life will conduct a thorough health and safety check of each residential room and will document any policy violations. Students must complete their checkout process before November 25, 2020, by 12:00 pm Noon. The last contract meal is breakfast on Wednesday, November 25, 2020. 

If you are returning to campus for Spring 2021, please follow these steps:

  • Pack up any valuable items, games, clothes, medications, computer, etc that you will need while home during Winter Break. Students may leave most items in their Fall 2020 Housing Assignment during Winter Break but students should remove all valuable and personal items. Students may leave most items in their rooms. ***Students will not have access to retrieve belongings from campus during break. Students are not permitted to return to campus prior to the posted opening time.***
  • Remove ALL perishable food and garbage by throwing it away in the dumpsters located outside of the residential buildings.
  • Unplug your mini-fridge, clean it out, and let it defrost prior to leaving. **use a towel(s) to absorb any liquid that melts from the freezer**
  • Unplug all electrical cords – computers, mini-fridges, lights, TVs, etc. **the main college-provided fridge in all apartment buildings should stay plugged in.**
  • Close and lock windows.
  • Close blinds and/or curtains.
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum the floors.
  • For suites and apartments - clean sinks, toilets, and showers.
  • Turn off all lights.
  • Lock your bedroom, suite, and apartment doors.
  • Complete your Fall 2020 Checkout process with Residential Life staff.

***Students will not have access to retrieve belongings from campus during break. Students are not permitted to return to campus prior to the posted opening time.***

***The College is not responsible for any items left in the rooms over breaks.*** 

If you are graduating in December 2020 and/or not returning to Campus for Spring 2021, please follow these steps. Not Returning is defined as students who are not enrolled for Spring 2021 semester, students who are studying in an off campus program for Spring 2021, and students who are participating in an internship greater than 50 miles away.

  • Schedule your checkout with a Residential Life staff member. This checkout will include collecting your Student ID, and collecting any campus keys like room key and/or mailbox key.
  • Pack up all of your personal items so they can all be removed from your Fall 2020 Housing Assignment upon your departure from campus.
  • Remove all perishable food items you will not be taking with you by throwing them away in the dumpsters located outside of the residential buildings.
  • Unplug your mini-fridge, clean it out, and let it defrost prior to leaving. ***use a towel(s) to absorb any liquid that melts from the freezer***
  • Close and lock windows.
  • Close blinds and/or curtains.
  • Remove all garbage from your assigned room by throwing it away in the dumpsters located outside of the buildings.
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum the floors.
  • For suites and apartments - clean sinks, toilets, and showers.
  • Turn off all lights.
  • Lock your room, bedroom, suite, and apartment doors.

The Spring 2021 semester begins on Monday, January 25, 2021. Spring 2021 move-in information will be available later in the semester. Please visit Albion’s Together Safely web page for updated information related to the health and safety of our College community related to COVID-19.

Fall Semester Closing and Winter Break Policies are subject to change based on enrollment, space allotment, and the State of Michigan Executive Orders on Public Health. If there are any changes to Spring 2021 Housing Assignments, students affected will be notified via email. In the event of temporary closures, restrictions, and/or adjustments to the academic schedule, Albion College shall not be obligated to issue refunds or credits, whether partial or full, for such interruptions or adjustments.
