Wireless Networking for Windows XP
These instructions are intended for wireless network users with computers that are not owned by Albion College. Albion College owned computers are set to work with wireless automatically. Anyone having a problem with wireless on an Albion College owned computer should contact the Helpdesk for assistance.
Note: Windows XP users must be running Service Pack 3 (SP3) in order to connect to the wireless network.
Click the wireless icon in the taskbar. It is the circled item in the image below.
After clicking the wireless icon, the Wireless Network Connection appears as pictured below. Select the Albion network, then click the Connect button.
After clicking the Connect button, you will get a certificate error as pictured below. When this happens, click the "Change advanced settings" option in the lower left corner of the Wireless Network Connection screen.
After clicking "Change advanced settings", the Wireless Network Connection Properties screen appears. Click on the Wireless Networks tab at the top of the page so you see the options shown in the image below.
On the Wireless Network Connection Properties screen, select the Albion wireless network and then click the Properties button in the lower right. This will bring up the Albion properties page. Select the Authentication tab at the top so you screen looks like the image below.
Under EAP type, change the setting to Protected EAP (PEAP) as pictured below, then click the Properties button.
After clicking the Properties button, the Protected EAP Properties page appears. Uncheck the "Validate server certificate" option so that the page looks like the one shown in the image below. Then click on the Configure button under the Select Authentication Method section of the page.
In the EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties page, uncheck the "Automatically use my Windows logon name..." option so that it looks like the image below, then click OK.
Click ok on any remaining open dialog boxes to save the information entered into them. Once this is done, you should see a bubble appear over the wireless icon in the taskbar like the one pictured below. When it appears, click on it.
After clicking on the bubble, you will be prompted for your network username and password as shown below. Enter your username and password, then click the OK button.
After clicking the OK button, you should be connected to the Albion wireless network. Students will be prompted to sign into Cisco Clean Access at this point.
