College Guides Recognize Albion for Social Mobility, First-Year Experience
September 10, 2019
Two well-established rankings of American colleges and universities, U.S. News and World Report and Washington Monthly, feature Albion College in their latest editions in the area of social mobility.
In U.S. News, Albion tied for 63rd among national liberal arts colleges in the Top Performers on Social Mobility category. Washington Monthly, meanwhile, builds its ranking entirely on institutions’ contribution to the public good across three categories—social mobility, research and promoting public service.
Albion also was included in a U.S. News list of the top 101 First-Year Experiences among colleges and universities. According to the publication, “We invited college presidents, chief academic officers, deans of students and deans of admissions from more than 1,500 schools to nominate up to 15 institutions with stellar examples of first-year experiences. Colleges and universities that received 10 or more nominations are ranked.”
Compared with a year ago, Albion gained 14 and 12 spots (to 108 and 140), respectively, in the Washington Monthly and U.S. News overall rankings of national liberal arts colleges.
A pair of additional annual rankings—one from Forbes and a combined effort from Times Higher Education and The Wall Street Journal—released in the last month also highlights Albion. Earlier in the summer, Albion was included in the 2019-2020 editions of the Fiske Guide to Colleges and The Princeton Review’s Best 385 Colleges.
