For National Women’s History Month, Albion College presents three events that explore unique and universal female experiences. These events are free and open to the public. Saturday, March 19
7 p.m., Albion College Kellogg Center
Speak Like a Girl: Interactive feminist show using humor and drama to discuss issues of gender, street harassment, body image, rape culture and the perils of the patriarchy.
Wednesday, March 23
7 p.m., Norris Science Center Towsley Hall
The Anna Howard Shaw Lecture, “Health Risks of Children Growing up in Poverty.” Presenter Mona Hanna‐Attisha is director of the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine’s Pediatrics Program at Hurley Hospital in Flint. She was thrust into the national spotlight after reporting the alarming rise in Flint children under five with elevated lead levels. Hanna-Attisha refused to accept official denials of a problem with Flint’s drinking water, and government officials eventually apologized and affirmed her research.
Monday, March 28
7 p.m., Bobbitt Visual Arts Center
Women Doing Life: Lora Bex Lempert looks beyond the explosive headlines that characterize these women as monsters, offering rare insight into this vulnerable, little- studied population. Her gendered analysis considers how women “do crime” differently than their male counterparts.
