After their selection by the Albion College Alumni Association Board of Directors, the following six alums will be honored in a ceremony Friday, April 22, 2022 in Upper Baldwin.

Albion Students Share Chores, Cultures in Global Intentional Living Community

Nine college students—from seven countries and five continents, with dozens of cultural practices, food preferences, idiosyncrasies and opinions—sharing a house? It could be the premise of a reality TV show full of conflict. But at Albion College, it’s the Global Intentional Living Community, where the residents celebrate their differences as a personal, day-to-day experience.

The Marilyn Crandell Schleg Archivist and Special Collections Librarian is the new director of the Foundation for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity (FURSCA), one of Albion’s signature programs. “It’s a lot of fun and very encouraging to see the creative things that our students are doing.” Palmer says.

New Political Science Professor Published in Globally Recognized Journals

Dr. Milkessa Gemechu’s recent articles in Foreign Policy and Al Jazeera detail his personal experiences with the conflict in Ethiopia. He arrived in Albion last summer through the College’s partnership with the Institute of International Education’s Scholar Rescue Fund and says of its residents: “They are a beautiful community. They are helpful people, they are kind people.”

Dr. Jocelyn McWhirter Writes Introduction to Latest HarperCollins Study Bible

The invitation “came out of the blue,” says McWhirter, the Stanley S. Kresge Professor of Religious Studies. The “go-to” resource is used in religious studies courses and classrooms at colleges and universities around the world.

‘Wildcat Wisdom Series’ Forges Albion Connections

The four virtual events in February, created and moderated by Albion community leader Leslie Spicer Williams, featured Black graduates of Albion High School who attributed their success to their hometown. Albion College Assistant Dean for Campus Life Sharese Shannon Mathis said, “It is important to connect our campus with the Albion community, especially since so many graduates of Albion High School are contributing to the greater good in so many amazing ways.”
