ALBION, Mich. — Albion College is pleased to announce that Elinor Marsh, executive director of The Music Center in Battle Creek, will join the Institutional Advancement division as executive director of alumni engagement on Sept. 19.
Marsh has served as The Music Center’s executive director for six years. During her tenure, she has led the organization and board of directors in strategic planning and board development, supervised an operating budget of $1 million, and enhanced income strategies including ticket sales, tuition, corporate sponsorships, grants, special events, and individual contributions. Marsh also oversaw the activity of 20 staff, 50 faculty, and 100 musicians, and was chief spokesperson for The Music Center on local and statewide levels.
Marsh's background in development and alumni engagement includes more than 10 years in higher education, including with the Wharton Center at Michigan State University and the Hopkins Center at Dartmouth College. In those positions, Marsh worked with volunteer relations, event planning, corporate sponsors, annual fund campaigns and community outreach education programs.
"We are very excited to be working with Elinor," said Cheryl Henderson Almeda, '91, president of Albion's Alumni Association board. "She brings wisdom and experience as a former student and staff member of two excellent colleges of liberal arts, as well as her knowledge of and practical experience working with at least two boards. I am most impressed with her appreciation for blending the valuable traditions on campus with innovative thinking. This blending will help steer Albion College toward future success without dismissing our rich and valuable past."
An alumna of Hanover College, Marsh also has a personal connection with Albion, as the daughter of Georgia Wilson, '65. "She developed a particular fondness for Albion early on," explained Shannon Duvall, associate vice president for development and alumni engagement. "Elinor said she is especially eager to begin working with the Albion College Alumni Association board on Saturday, September 24th, our Homecoming."
Marsh received an M.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; she holds a bachelor's degree and education certification in music from Hanover.
“Elinor is a fine vocalist and passionate educator who led The Music Center over the last six years into a more cohesive institution with more programs to serve Battle Creek, Hastings, Marshall, and the surrounding communities with music education and performances,” said Mary Maley, Music Center board president. “We are grateful for the time that she has spent with us and celebrate her new opportunities with her.”
