Albion Makes Top 10 Cities in Reader's Digest National Competition
By Jake Weber
The city of Albion took fourth place in a recent contest involving thousands of communities from across the U.S. As one of the top vote-getters in the Reader's Digest "We Hear You America" contest, Albion will receive a $10,000 prize, which the city plans to use for either walking-trail improvements or the renovation of historic Bohm Theatre.
The contest, which ran from fall 2010 through February 7, simply asked Internet users to log onto the Reader's Digest Web site and "cheer" for their favorite town by clicking a button. Albion supporters—including the College's faculty, staff, and students—amassed nearly 650,000 votes during the contest.
Albion was one of three Michigan cities in the top 10, including the winning town of Grand Marais in the Upper Peninsula. With its fourth-place finish, Albion will also be featured in the May issue of Reader's Digest, and may be a stop on the Reader's Digest RV tour.
