Albion Big Read Film, "United Skates"

Date: Wednesday, October 23, 2019 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Duration: 1 Hour
Location: Bohm Theatre

As America's last standing roller rinks are threatened with closure, UNITED SKATES spotlights a community of thousands who fight in a racially charged environment to save the underground African-American subculture of roller skating, which has been overlooked by the mainstream for generations, while giving rise to great musical talents. This documentary is unrated.

"Pride," a 21st-century take on the 19th century's beloved "Pride and Prejudice," is the focus of Albion's 2019 Big Read. Throughout October, the Big Read sponsors a number of community book discussions led by Albion youth. Films and special events round out the October celebration of reading together.

Free copies of "Pride" are available at Albion City Hall, the Albion District Library, the Charles Snyder Center, Pure Albion, or the Albion College English Department!

These events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Big Read director Jess Roberts at , or see the Big Read website,
