Non-Speaking Activist Visits Albion with Documentary

Date: Friday, September 13, 2019 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Duration: 1 Hour

The incredible documentary "Deej," about a non-speaking autistic disability rights activist and poet, and his advocacy for the inclusion of non-speaking disabled people, comes to Albion College Friday September 13 at 7 p.m. in Albion College's Norris Science Center Towsley Hall. A Q&A with DJ Savarese, the subject of the film, will follow after the screening.

Savarese graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Oberlin College in 2017 with majors in anthropology and creative writing. He received both Oberlin's William Battrick Poetry Fellowship and their Comfort Starr Award for meritorious scholarly work in Anthropology. As a 2017 Open Society Foundations Youth Exchange/Human Rights Initiative Fellow, Savarese worked to make literacy-based education, communication, and inclusive lives a reality for all nonspeaking people.

Diversability is Albion College’s organization for disabled students. This event is free and open to all. For more information, go to Albion College Diversability’s Facebook page and/or contact Diversability President Eryn Star - .
