The greater Albion community will enjoy a tasty kickoff for Albion College's Year of Sustainability with the College Farmers' Market on Thursday, August 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market will be held on Hannah Street between East Cass and East Erie streets.
Local vendors will offer a variety of fresh produce, meats honey and non-food goods and crafts. The market will also feature a number of small-farm and organic food suppliers to Bon Appétit, Albion College’s dining services provider. These vendors offer produce, meat and cheeses produced within a 150 miles of Albion. The Albion College Student Farm, which also sells produce to Bon Appétit, will also have vegetables for sale.
Albion College’s Farmers' Market is the first event marking the College’s Year of Sustainability. Throughout 2013-14, speakers, events, service opportunities and other activities will engage the campus and community in examining a variety of issues related to the theme year. Beginning with the Farmers' Market, September will be devoted to food, while October programs address water and November programs examine shelter.
All members of the greater Albion community are encouraged to attend. Anyone wishing to participate as a vendor should contact Farmer’s Market student organizer Tim Billings, or 517/629-0731.
