Class of 2019 Raises Money for Scholarship
The Senior Class Gift is a longstanding tradition at Albion College during which members of the senior class participate in the Briton philanthropic community through personal donations and encouraging the support of others.
The 2019 Senior Class Gift raised money for scholarship, an area of greatest need. The class voted to name this scholarship "Brits Give Back." This fund feeds into the Briton Scholarship Fund, Albion College's unrestricted annual fund for scholarship that contributes largely to students' financial aid packages.
Their motto for the project - "Look forward, give back" - encapsulates the spirit of a Briton culture and community of philanthropy, with gratitude for opportunities at Albion College, ambition for graduates' futures, and a commitment to enabling others to have remarkable experiences at Albion, dear Albion.
Regarding involvement in this project, co-chair Matt Stander, '19, said: "I'm involved with the Senior Class Gift because I want to give back to the college that has given me so much already. In addition to education, Albion has given me countless opportunities that I don't think I would have gotten at another school, and I am truly grateful for them."
With a leadership team of five, the Senior Class Gift raised over $1,600 in four months from classmates, faculty and staff, parents, and community members. Their spring semester activities included tabling in the Kellogg Center, social media outreach, a breakfast fundraiser at Albion Malleable, presenting during an all-senior-class meeting, and visiting with alumni during Albion Everywhere in March.
During their presentation of the Senior Class Gift to President Ditzler at commencement, the new graduates proclaimed:
"The Senior Class of 2019 is one built on service and philanthropy. If our time at Albion has taught us anything, it’s that giving feels a lot better than receiving, and our class has truly made an impact through giving. We understand the importance of giving back to the community and the individuals within. For this reason, the class of 2019 wishes to continue the culture of philanthropy through the Brits Give Back Scholarship."
