SUMMARY:Wilder Weather: What Laura Ingalls Wilder Teaches Us About the Weather\, Climate\, and Protecting What We Cherish
DESCRIPTION:Barb Mayes Boustead\, Ph.D.\, is a meteorologist\, climatologist\, and instructor\, and will be giving a public talk suitable for all audiences on her work. She writes and researches about weather and climate\, and recently published Wilder Weather. Born in Michigan and currently living in Nebraska\, her loves of weather and of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books both grew from early age. \nThe lasting appeal of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House books springs from her vivid\, detailed descriptions of the skies and lands around her and her family. Though she wrote the Little House books as fiction based on her life\, Wilder’s accounts of the weather around her ring true. From blizzards to prairie fires\, tornadoes to grasshoppers\, and floods to droughts\, weather-related calamities plagued the Ingalls and Wilder families. \nwilderweather.com \nLocation: Bobbit Visual Arts Center – Auditorium – 113

SUMMARY:The 2026 Yinger Lecture is a Movie at the Bohm: Fairyland
DESCRIPTION:Albion College's History Department\, in conjunction with the college's 2026 Yinger Endowed Lecture in the Humanities\, welcomes Alysia Abbott to Albion College and the Bohm Theatre for the Michigan premier of Fairyland\, Friday\, April 10th\, at 7:00 pm. \nAlysia is the author of Fairyland: A Memoir of My Father (2013)\, about growing up in the 1970s and 80s in San Francisco as the only child of a single gay man. The 2023 dramatic film adaptation\, also called Fairyland\, was shown in selected theaters nationally just this past fall. The winner of a number of film festival awards\, Fairyland is also nominated for a 2026 GLAAD Media award for Outstanding Film in Limited Release. Praised as an "unconventional coming-of-age story"\, "a moving\, warmly funny portrait of a bygone era of queer life and liberation" "that is at its very big heart a universal story of family\, love\, staying true to who you are\, and being there for each other when it counts the most"\, Fairyland has been received positively by both reviewers and audiences\, scoring 96% on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer. \nA discussion with Alysia will follow the film. This event is free and open to the public. Please join us! \nLocation: Off Campus
