The Genius of Hip-Hop

October 24, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

This lecture from Dr. Frederick Gooding Jr. will focus on the social justice movement as it relates to hip-hop culture and the genius of how they are parallel.

Frederick W. Gooding, Jr. (Ph.D., Georgetown University) is the Dr. Ronald E. Moore Endowed Professor of the Humanities and Associate History Professor of African American Studies within the John V. Roach Honors College at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX. Featured in national outlets such as “The New York Times,” “USA Today,” and “TIME Magazine,” Dr. Gooding is a professor of pop culture who engages audiences on subtle racial patterns “hidden in plain sight.” Dr. Gooding has also provided social commentary on CNBC, CBS, and Fox News networks and has reached an international audience through his invited lectures and writings, the latest of which is “The Griot Tradition as Remixed through Hip Hop: Straight Outta Africa,” just released August of 2023 by Rowman & Littlefield. Last but not least, he is the proud father of two and the humble husband of one; these three allow him to see and realize his full humanity.
