Requirements for Major with Creative Writing
Ten Units in English, Including:
Two foundational writing units, including
- Completion with a 2.0 or better of either ENGL 101W , College Writing or ENGL 102W , Honors College Writing
- One unit of ENGL 215W , Introductory Creative Writing
Two creative writing units in your choice of genre:
- One unit of intermediate workshop in poetry or fiction numbered ENGL 316W to ENGL 319W
- One unit of the corresponding advanced workshop, from this list:
Two additional writing units of your choice, including
- One creative writing unit numbered ENGL 216W to ENGL 219W or ENGL 316W to 319W, in a different genre than your specialization.
- One writing unit (not necessarily creative writing) numbered ENGL 103W to ENGL 119W, or ENGL 203W to ENGL 219W, or ENGL 300W to ENGL 319W.
Four literature units (without “W” suffix), including:
- One unit numbered ENGL 120 to ENGL 186
- One unit numbered ENGL 220 to ENGL 286
- One unit at the 300-level emphasizing literature written during the twentieth or twenty-first centuries, from this list:
- One unit of your choice numbered ENGL 220 to ENGL 286 or ENGL 320 to ENGL 386
Note
- All units used to fulfill major requirements must be taken for a numerical grade.
- Directed Study or Special Topics courses may be used to fulfill requirements with permission of the department chair.
- Students who placed higher than ENGL 101W and ENGL 102W on Albion College’s writing placement exam can substitute a writing unit (“W” suffx) of their choice at the 100 or 200 level to fulfill the ENGL 101W or ENGL 102W requirement for the major.
