Nathan Salazar-Woodwind

Applied Instructor of Saxophone and Oboe

Nathan Salazar is a saxophonist based in the Lansing, Michigan area.

As a soloist, Salazar was the winner of the Michigan State University concerto competition where he was a featured soloist with the MSU Symphony Orchestra. Salazar has won several accolades as a soloist, including winning the Arizona State University Concerto Competition, receiving 2nd place in the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Young Artist Competition, and was a finalist in the Brevard Jean and Beatie Wood Concerto Competition and The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” Collegiate Solo Competition. He has also performed various guest artist recitals at Western Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, Oakland University, and St. Olaf College.

An active chamber musician, Salazar has performed recitals with Quartet Samod and the Seyon Quartet at Western Michigan University, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Western Illinois University, Midwestern State University, Brookhaven College, West Texas A&M University, and Chamber Music Montana. Salazar has also performed as a substitute baritone saxophonist with the nationally renowned Capitol Quartet.

A dedicated teacher, Salazar is the Adjunct Instructor of Saxophone and Oboe at Albion College, Adjunct Instructor of Saxophone, Clarinet, and Oboe at Spring Arbor University, and the saxophone, clarinet, and flute Instructor at the Jackson Symphony Orchestra Community Music School. Salazar holds a Masters of Music in Multiple Woodwind Performance from Michigan State University and a Bachelors of Music in Saxophone Performance from Arizona State University.
