Commencement is on May 4, 2019 and begins at 1 p.m. Please note that the Processional begins at 12:45 p.m.—all guests must be seated by 12:30 p.m. The ceremony generally lasts about two hours and is held on the Campus Quadrangle, rain or shine. In the case of severe weather, before or during the ceremony, announcements about a delay or change in location will be made.

We look forward to welcoming you to campus as we celebrate the wonderful accomplishments of your student. Family and friends are welcome to attend* the Commencement ceremony. Below is information to help you plan your visit!

*In case of severe weather, the ceremony will be moved to Goodrich Chapel—this decision will be announced via email and on the Albion College website. If the ceremony takes place indoors, tickets will be required. Students will receive two tickets prior to the event for distribution to friends and family. If the celebration is able to be held outdoors, seating is unlimited and tickets are not required.

Friday, May 3

5:00 p.m.

Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse Commencement Ceremony

The lacrosse teams will play for the MIAA Tournament Championship on Saturday, so we will recognize the graduates on Friday at this mini-Commencement ceremony. Please join us in Goodrich Chapel to celebrate their success at Albion College and with the lacrosse teams.

7:30 - 9:00 p.m.

Baccalaureate Service

Location: Goodrich Chapel

This is a wonderful tradition at Albion College that features senior recognition, music, Scripture, and a senior charge. Join Albion College Chaplain, Reverend Donald Phillips for a service in celebration of the Class of 2019. Our quest speaker will be The United Methodist Church Michigan Area Presiding Bishop, Bishop David A. Bard. This is one of the culminating experiences that seniors can share with their families, friends, and the Albion College community before Commencement. Light refreshments will be served after this brief (one-hour) service.

Senior Breakfast

Location: Lower Baldwin, Cafe

Join your senior for a special graduation breakfast. Special menu! Adults $8.75, Children under 9 $6, Children under 3 no charge. (All graduating seniors are provided meals in Lower Baldwin including this special graduation breakfast.)

11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Open Reception

Location: Kellogg Center

Complimentary light morning refreshments will be available at the KC for all Commencement guests.

Location: Outside on the College Quadrangle, in front of Kresge Gymnasium

Processional: 12:45 p.m. We ask that you please be seated by 12:30 p.m.

Caps, Gowns, Announcements, Diploma Frames and Class Rings

All students participating in Commencement exercises are required to wear proper academic dress. Caps and gowns may be purchased in the Bookstore of the Kellogg Center, or by calling 517/629-0305.

For each gift of $500, a Commemorative Brick will be ordered for you with an inscription of your son or daughter's name and class year or the name(s) of an individual(s) they wish to honor. After viewing your brick at the Commemorative Brick Table at Commencement, your brick will then be permanently displayed in the Commemorative Walkway at the Albion College Athletic Complex. To have your brick ready at Commencement, please return the form by April 2.

Purchase a Book with a Book Plate!

With a gift of $100 or more, a new Albion College Library Book will carry a commemorative book plate that will honor your son or daughter's name or the name(s) of any person(s) they wish to honor. The book will be chosen based on the needs of Stockwell-Mudd Libraries and a notice will be mailed to you indicating the book's title and the name of the person you honored. To have your commemorative library book plate ready by Commencement, please return the form by April 2.

Invest in Another Student!

Consider making a donation in your son's or daughter's name to the Briton Scholarship Fund. This fund benefits hundreds of students every year and is a wonderful way to "pay forward" to benefit a deserving student in the year ahead. Simply mark the appropriate box on the gift form. A commemorative card will be given to you at Commencement if you return the enclosed form by April 2.

Handicapped/Special-Needs Seating and Parking

Handicapped-accessible parking is available in the lot behind the library at Oswego and Cass Streets.

A Sign Language interpreter will be located near the Commencement platform and special seating is available.

Please call the Office of Campus Safety at 517/629-1234 to make arrangements for any guests needing barrier-free entrances or with other special needs.

Tickets and Seating

Seating is unlimited and tickets are NOT required if the ceremony is held outdoors on the Campus Quadrangle.

If the ceremony is held indoors (Goodrich Chapel), Tickets will be required for any family members or friends who will be attending Commencement. Each student will receive tickets via their campus mailbox about two weeks prior to the ceremony.

For family members without tickets, spaces on campus will be open and showing a live stream of the ceremony.

There are a limited number of tickets due to the fire code regulations in Goodrich Chapel. Therefore, tickets are necessary if the ceremony is held indoors.

We do not have replacement tickets for lost tickets.
