High School Honor Band Convenes on Campus

The Albion College Symphonic Band welcomes all audiences to enjoy an evening of musical exploration at the 7th annual High School Honor Band Concert on Saturday, February 21 at 7 p.m. in Goodrich Chapel.

Albion College's honors band brings talented high school from around the state for a large-scale, college-level performing experience. This year, 50 students from 20 different high schools will be in attendance. Guest conductor Erica Neidlinger, assistant director of bands at DePaul University in Chicago, leads the combined college Symphonic Band and high school honor band in Symphonic Suite by American composer Clifton Williams, as well as Jay Bocook's arrangement of 76 Trombones and Steve Rouse's Swing Low, Sweet Chariot performed by the honor band alone.

The Albion College Symphonic Band performs in the first half of the concert, directed by Samuel McIlhagga, featuring movements from Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. The Symphonic Band consists of over 70 musicians representing virtually every major on campus and boasts about 10 former members of past High School Honor Bands.

This performance is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Albion College Music department at 517/629-0481 or .
