ATTN: Changes to the Credit/No Credit Grading Option

Since Albion College has decided to transition temporarily to a distance education model, the Curriculum and Resource Committee (C&RC) of the Faculty has amended the current Credit/No Credit grading option policy for the spring 2020 semester.

Beginning Monday, March 23, students may elect to switch some or all of their Spring 2020 semester courses to Credit/No Credit grading instead of numeric grading. The deadline to switch Spring 2020 courses to CR/NC is Monday, April 20. Instructions for requesting the switch to CR/NC are below. By re-opening the option for Credit/No Credit grading, C&RC hopes to reduce the student stress while allowing students to complete program and degree programs. Students may decide to continue with the numeric grade option in their Spring 2020 courses. CR/NC grading option may be the best option for some students, depending on individual circumstances.

  • To receive Credit, a student must receive a 2.0 or higher in a course. Grades below a 2.0 receive No Credit.
  • To qualify for the Dean’s List or for Albion Fellows, students must take four units and may only take one unit as Credit/No Credit.
  • Students should consult with their academic adviser(s) prior to electing the CR/NC grading option.

Spring 2020 Semester exceptions to the Credit/No Credit Policy

The Curriculum & Resources Committee has provided some exceptions to the current CR/NC grading options:

  1. There is no limit to the number of spring 2020 semester courses allowed to be taken CR/NC.
  2. Courses graded CR/NC may satisfy major, minor, and concentration requirements for every degree program.
  3. This applies to all courses for the Spring 2020 semester.

Instructions for Switching Courses to CR/NC

Below is a link to the online form. Submit this form indicating which courses you would like to switch to CR/NC. That’s all you need to do. If you do not submit this form by 8:00 pm Eastern Standard Time on Monday, April 20, your courses will remain in numeric grade (4.0 – 0.0) mode.

The deadline to switch Spring 2020 courses to CR/NC is Monday, April 20. Late requests WILL NOT be processed.
