Nicolle Zellner, professor of physics, Albion CollegeAlbion College physics professor Nicolle Zellner helped mid-Michigan residents understand the Russian meteorite and passing asteroid on the Friday, February 15 WILX (channel 10, Lansing) 6 p.m. news broadcast. (Watch the clip on the WILX website.)

Zellner's primary research focus is lunar astronomy, but she has done significant work in many areas of astronomical science. She and Albion chemistry professor Vanessa McCaffrey were supported by NASA to study how impact forces (such as those caused by colliding bodies in space) might change organic compounds. She was a contributing scientist to the National Science Foundation's study of meteorites in Antarctica.

Zellner also shares her expertise with the Albion community, regularly opening the College's observatory for public viewing. She and Albion anthropology professor Brad Chase also recently organized two presentations to educate the public on the December 2012 "end of the world" reports.
