Albion College proudly hosts the 2014 Liberal Arts Jazz Festival on Saturday, February 15 in Goodrich Chapel. The festival welcomes big bands and jazz combos from Oakland University, Hillsdale College, Spring Arbor University, Hillsdale High School, and Albion College.
The festival performances begin at 10:00 a.m., and end with a feature concert at 8:00 p.m., featuring performances by guest clinicians and the Albion College Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. James Ball.
The festival is adjudicated by guest clinician Robert Hurst (right), famed bassist who has collaborated with Wynton and Branford Marsalis, Harry Connick Jr, Tony Williams and Steve Coleman. He is a frequent recording artist and former member of The Tonight Show Band. Other clinicians and guest artists include Sunny Wilkinson, Rob Smith and Chris Smith; each will hold master classes for students performing in the festival.
The concert will be preceded by a jam session at Cascarelli’s of Albion on Friday, February 14 at 9:00 p.m. The festival is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Albion College Music Department at 517/629-0481 or .
