English Education Major Logan Woods, '14, to Teach in Romania on Fulbright

Logan Woods, '14, is a Fulbright Award recipient for 2014. He will teach English in Romania for nine months beginning this fall.
As a middle-school student, history and English education major Logan Woods randomly chose the country of Romania for a social studies project. It's the kind of story that warms a teacher's heart: From that assignment, Woods gained an abiding interest in the country. Now, as the recipient of a 2014-15 Fulbright Student Award, Woods will spend nine months in Romania, teaching English in a school setting.


Trombley, '14, Rewarded for Community Journalism

Travis Trombley, '14, will be rewarded for his dedication to community journalism January 31 when he receives a Michigan Press Association Foundation Community Journalism Scholarship. Trombley, who has written a wide range of stories for The Pleiad, the College's weekly student newspaper, says, "Feature writing, in essence, is community writing. ... Community journalism is something I don’t mind spending extra time on. I’m doing my job when I’m reporting, and I love that."

Starting the Start-up: Claire Van Raaphorst's London Internship

An English and communication studies major may seem an unlikely intern for a tech start-up, but Claire Van Raaphorst, '14, tells a different story. "I felt pretty lost when they'd launch into explanations of Python code or Javascript," she says of her colleagues. "On the flip side, I was the resident expert on writing. I made substantial revisions to many important documents, to make them more clear and understandable."
