Austin Baidas, '92, recently shared his experience and background in business and politics with Albion students as a visiting scholar. He is the first alumnus to participate in a budding College initiative known as the Visting Scholars Program, and it seemed to resonate with the students. “Two decades or so ago, I was sitting in their position," he said.

With nearly 1,200 digs in her first two collegiate volleyball seasons, Monica Shuk, '19, has become one of the top defensive players in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The Milford, Mich., native is just as focused on developing her professional skills in accounting, and she recently talked about her summer internship in the Bingham Farms office of Jacobs, a Fortune 500 engineering and technology firm.

There is a bond that still holds fast with many Albion College students who were part of what was then known as the Professional Management Program, and which evolved and was renamed the Carl A. Gerstacker Institute for Business and Management. It was a new and different step for Albion, and the students who joined in knew they were doing something special that could change their lives. And leading the way were Frank Burdine, ’68, who returned to his alma mater in 1977 to run what was known then as Pro Man, followed in 1978 by John McConnell, an Albion economics professor, who coordinated the program until 1980.

Nick Smith, '18, Spans the Globe Through Semester at Sea

Each year, Albion students have the opportunity to study all over the world. Last fall, Nick Smith, '18, a finance and public policy major from Midland, Mich., and a member of the Britons swimming and diving team, completed a semester abroad through Semester at Sea, a program that allows students to travel and study while aboard a ship sailing the seas. In total, Smith, who is also in the Gerstacker and Ford institutes as well as the Honors Program, spent 104 days traveling to places including Greece, Italy, Morocco and Brazil.
