Albion College has named marketing executive Emily Nolan as director of its Carl A. Gerstacker Institute for Business and Management. The appointment was announced by President Donna Randall.
“We are truly fortunate to have attracted Emily Nolan as Gerstacker Institute director,” Randall said. “She has relevant experience in both higher education and the business world, and will bring creative ideas on how we might expand our current programs. Additionally, her global business perspective will be an invaluable resource for our students and faculty.”
Nolan has served as Whirlpool’s global category manager in the food prep and cooking categories since 2007. In addition to creating and executing a strategic plan for the division, she led new product development and growth in sales in several small-appliance categories.
Nolan came to Michigan in 2005 as an associate brand manager for Kellogg’s and was involved in marketing initiatives for several breakfast cereal products.
Nolan got her start in the food industry in New York, managing the Betty Crocker, Weight Watchers, and For Dummies cookbook series for Macmillan. She authored Baking for Dummies and The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Baking, offering public relations promotions, interviews, and demonstrations.
A participant in the Wharton Business School’s post-baccalaureate program in 2002, she took a break from the food industry to serve as director of public relations in the University of Pennsylvania’s undergraduate admissions office from 2000 to 2003. Nolan earned her bachelor’s degree from Guilford College in 1992 and her M.B.A. from Wake Forest University’s Babcock Graduate School of Management in 2005.
“My time in the corporate world has prepared me for this position,” Nolan said. “The goals we focused on during the recruitment process were variety and balance. We want to create a more diverse student experience through internships and speakers. We want to introduce the Albion College community to different aspects of the business world.”
