Professional Association: Professor Emeritus of Art and Art History, Albion College
The first emeritus professor ever to join the Board, Goering spent 22 years with Albion College's Art and Art History department before retiring in 2008; he also taught for many summers with the University of Michigan School of Art and Design. Prior to committing to art, Goering served as a medical supervisor with the Army Special Forces (Green Berets). During his Albion tenure, Goering won a number of awards for teaching, scholarship and service to the College, including a term as associate dean of the faculty. In retirement, Goering continues to paint and exhibit. He is a faithful supporter of Albion's football, basketball and track teams and is involved with promoting Albion in the Flint area. A number of Albion alumni established the Douglas Goering Scholarship in Art and Art History in his honor.
