Holidays and Vacation

Albion College recognizes and observes the following paid holidays for all full-time, salaried, administrative employees:

  • New Year's Day
  • Martin Luther King Day
  • Good Friday (Half Day/P.M.)
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Day after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Eve Day
  • Christmas Day
  • Day after Christmas
  • New Year's Eve Day

Some employees may be required to work on a designated holiday. You will be advised by your supervisor if you are scheduled to work.

The College will attempt to accommodate an employee who wishes to observe non-Christian religious holidays.  However, the amount of holiday time off for observance of such holidays will not exceed the amount of time off allowed other employees.  Arrangements must be made through the Human Resources office at least two (2) weeks in advance.

*Labor Day: Due to the updated Academic Calendar, the College will be open and classes will be held on Labor day (September 7) and some employees will need to work, see specifics based on employee status below:

  • Faculty: Classes should continue on normal schedules
  • Administrative Staff: Staff employees that are required to work on Labor Day will receive a floating holiday to be used by June 30, 2021
  • Union Staff: Union employees will be paid based on the Holiday Pay section of the collective bargaining agreement. If union employees are assigned to work on Labor Day, they will receive double their regular rate of pay for hours worked on Labor Day (in addition to the Holiday Pay).
