Additional Administrative Information
Student Evaluation Sheets
It is very important that we maintain accurate records regarding the use of the various tutoring services that we offer. Please have each student fill out an evaluation form at each tutoring visit. You will find the forms on the tables in the QSC.
There is a phone in the QSC. The number to the phone is 0824. Please limit your use of the phone during the day, since the line is shared with the QSC director's offices. If the QSC phone is in use, the director cannot use the phone in either of her offices.
Please conduct yourself in a professional manner while in the QSC, whether or not you are working directly with a student. Profane language is not appropriate, nor are personal conversations that may make others uncomfortable. Students are often working at tables near the QSC; please be considerate of them and others working nearby.
Missing a shift
If you know that you will have to miss a scheduled shift, please make arrangements for another tutor to work in your place if at all possible. If this cannot be arranged, please put up a note on the blackboard of the QSC to let people know that you won't be there.
Questions from courses outside your area
You may be asked questions from courses outside your area. Please do not dismiss the student out of hand. Try to look over their course notes and book to see if you can help. For example, students in Biomechanics will often come in for help with trigonometry. You will most likely be able to help them with the trig even if you never heard of biomechanics before.
Ending your shift
At the end of your shift, please be sure that the room is straightened up. It doesn't have to be perfect, but I'd appreciate it if wrappers and papers were not strewn about the room. If you are working in the evening, please be sure that the computers are turned off, windows are closed and locked, lights are off, and the door is closed.
There will be several training sessions taking place throughout the semester. Some of these will be online and some will likely take place in person. Tutors are required to complete the training sessions and may experience delays in payment when training sessions are missed. In addition to these sessions, tutors are required to sit in once each week in a class to be arranged with the Director. Tutors are paid for all time spent in training.
