Chris Anderson has been with the College since 1981 as a Carpenter. Chris is described by his fellow workers as being a very talented craftsman and willing to take on challenging projects. He takes great pride in his work while consistently looking for cost effective solutions to problems. He is always willing to help both others in the department and throughout campus. Chris has received numerous letters of thanks and appreciation from those he has assisted in various project work. Chris is a very conscientious worker and a real asset both to the department and the College. Linda Robinson is an Albion native, and began work at the College in November, 1971, following her graduation from Michigan State University. She spent 26 years in the Central Records department of Institutional Advancement, moving to Information Technology as a Banner and database support specialist in 1997. Linda enjoys working with databases like Banner, Access, and SQL Server, using her knowledge of the data to provide administrative reports and to keep computerized records accurate and up-to-date. In the past few months, her skills have been especially instrumental in gathering information for decision-making by the Executive Vice President regarding future directions for the College. We are pleased that she is a part of our administrative staff. (And don't forget to ask her about her cats!) Phyllis Motley has been with the College since May of 1990. Phyllis was nominated by her peers, which is a true tribute to her effect on others. Her co-workers feel that Phyllis “always has a positive attitude regardless of circumstances”. She interacts well with students and takes tremendous pride in her job. Congratulations Phyllis!! Olin Kissinger has been with the college since 1996 as a Maintenance II. Ollie is a very dependable, hard working employee assigned to work on the boiler plant and steam distribution system performing a very important job that is almost totally unknown. Ollie roams the tunnels, mechanical rooms, and hidden recesses of the campus inspecting the thousands of steam traps and other devices which make the steam distribution system work properly. (A steam trap is a device which assures that steam releases all its energy in the proper place before being returned as condensate). He has documented over $56,000 in energy savings this winter due to this preventative maintenance program. Thank you Ollie for your diligent work behind the scenes which makes Albion College a better place for all of us to live and work. Mark Frever has been with the college since 2002 as Grounds Supervisor. Mark is a graduate of Michigan State University specializing in Turf Management. Under Mark's leadership exceptional progress has been made in improving the quality of college athletic fields including installation of underground irrigation, field renovations, and implementation of turf management practices necessary to produce a top quality product. These efforts were recognized this year by the Michigan Turf Grass Managers Association naming the Morley Fraser Field as Field of the Year. Mark has also shown exceptional leadership and creativity in efforts to reduce our waste disposal costs and enhance recycling. Sandy Smith-Nelson began her employment at Albion College on October 23, 1974 as a general dining service worker. Due to her adaptability, Sandy has worked her way up to the Crew Leader/Cashier/Grill Cook position. Sandy runs the day-to-day operations at the Eat Shop including the ordering, cash operations, choosing the daily specials, scheduling and keeping the students and staff happy. Everyone that comes in contact with Sandy cannot help but be affected by her sense of humor, fairness and willingness to make the best of any situation. Sandy is not afraid to challenge you, but will make sure in the end, the task is carried out to the best of her ability. She takes a great deal of pride in her work, is very organized, adaptable and gets along very well with the students and all her co-workers. These are only some of the things that make Sandy Smith-Nelson a great employee. All that know her love her not only as a co-worker but as a person who makes a special friend.


Roberta (Bert) Wilbur has been with the College since 1973 and is currently the most senior employee in the department. She is in Housekeeping and has been the Group Leader for many years. She is currently assigned to supervise the housekeepers in Wesley Hall. She has exceptionably high standards of quality and can always be counted on to help out where ever needed. Housekeeping is an area which has experienced budgetary challenges. Through this she maintains excellent standards and works exceptionally well with students and staff.


Pat Miller has been with Albion College since 1979. Her personality and people skills along with the expertise of her job knowledge allow her to act and successfully implement important changes and improvements as interim Director of Dining. She worked with the dining supervisors and hourly dining staff to determine the methodology to implement the proper configuration of part-time and full-time personnel resources and other resources in relation to budgeting. Pat has excelled in the areas of dedication to her work, dependability in critical situations, and the execution of duties and responsibilities over an extended period of time and is commended by management, her peers, and the College for her devotion to her work. Pat handled a tremendous load of work, and she did so with a high level of professionalism and good humor. She is a team player and she employs the team concept in her daily correspondence with her employees. Her determination in getting the job done, no matter how difficult or complicated is evident in all her daily tasks and responsibilities. She always maintains her composure and performs her duties in a professional manner. Her exemplary service has not gone unnoticed by her staff and co-workers who highly embraced her because she always has time to help them, no matter what the task.

Michele Bramble has been with the College since March 2000. Because of her dependability, work ethic and leadership ability, Michele Bramble was recently promoted to Unit Leader in the Eat Shop. Michele provides excellent customer service and is well-liked by the students. Also, showing her customary positive attitude, teamwork and demonstrated skill, Michele was an integral part of successful winter break projects. Russ Henson has been with the College since 1987, initially in Housekeeping. He currently works in Campus Services managing inventories, making deliveries, and setting up for events throughout the campus. Russ is exceptionally hard working, frequently doing more work than is reasonably expected of one person. He has exemplary attendance and proven commitment both to his job and the College. He is dependable, works with a minimum of supervision, and can be counted upon to complete the task at hand. This is a department which experienced a staff reduction with Russ picking up much of the extra work. Don Masternak has been with the college since 1990, initially as the College Architect and presently as the Associate Director of Facilities Operations. Don is very hard working and has exceptionally high standards regarding the quality of the work. During the recent holiday break Don taught and then lead a diverse group of Dining Services, Clerical, Grounds, and student employees in painting and remodeling projects. Don provided exceptional on-site leadership, frequently working along side the employees to demonstrate how the work is to be done properly. Together this group did an exceptional quantity of high quality work in a very cost effective manner. Sharon McCall started at Dining & Hospitality Services on November 9, 1992. She is a tireless worker that is always working hard and will tackle any task asked of her. She enjoys coming to work at the Albion College and spending time among her co-workers. Sharon is a very dependable employee who is never late for her shift. She does her job with pride and we are very fortunate to have Sharon as an important member of Dining & Hospitality Services. Everyone in the department is Sharon’s friend and vice-versa. Philip Sleight has been with the College since 1983. He works in the Grounds department assigned to the Quad. Phil is very hard working and exceptionally fastidious with regard to the upkeep and appearance of his area. Shahid Malik has been with Information Technology as a Systems/Network Technician since February 2004. When Shahid interviewed for his position, he was asked what three words he would use to describe himself. Shahid responded with “go, go, go”. Those three words very accurately describe his presence on campus. Shahid is an incredibly hard worker and in his short time on campus is well known by most as the one to call for help with computer and printer issues. Users have commented that Shahid performs "miracles" not only by how well he deals with technology issues, but also by the pleasant, helpful manner in which he interacts with users and helps educate them on technology issues. Users are always glad to see him come to their rescue. Because of the excellent job that Shahid does assisting users and putting out fires he makes IT service practically seamless. Shahid is always running under the radar, going across campus assisting users as well as meticulously working in his office doing repairs. Shahid has a quiet manner and a wonderful dry sense of humor and it is truly a pleasure to work with him. He is the epitome of a "go, go, go" worker and someone you can count on to get the job done!
