Wednesday, September 28, 2011
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Albion College failed to protect a three-point lead late in the third set as it was unable to extend its volleyball match against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Saint Mary’s College. Saint Mary’s overcame a 22-19 deficit in the third to sweep Albion by scores of 25-15, 25-17, 27-25.
A Saint Mary’s service error game Albion a 20-19 lead in the third. Albion extended the lead to 22-19 on a block by Caitlin McClorey (Wixom/Ladywood) and a kill by Lauren DeLuyck (West Bloomfield).
Christi Wyble produced kills on the next two points as Saint Mary’s pulled within one, and the Belles surged into the lead on an Albion attack error and a bad set. Albion recovered to tie the score at 23, 24, and 25, but Stephanie Bodien produced kills on the final two points.
McClorey finished with 9 kills in 17 attacks for a .471 hitting percentage. She also knocked down four blocks, two solo and two assists.
Albion will play its next two matches at Kresge Gymnasium, starting with an Oct. 4 date with Kalamazoo College.
