Men Display Depth at Trine Indoor Track Meet

Kristin Nelson soared nearly 34 feet in winning the triple jump.ANGOLA, Ind. – Lauren Kettle (Milford), Javaunte Mackson (Belleville), Tyler Miller (Albion), Kristin Nelson (Iron Mountain), Rosie Seitz (Spring Lake), and Amanda Weaver (Marshall) were event winners for Albion College in a Feb. 17 indoor track & field meet.
Albion had depth in a number of men’s events as it finished second in a field of eight teams. Miller and Kylen Bradley (Albion) were the top two performers in the triple jump, Mackson and Effrem Grettenberger (Lansing/Eastern) finished first and third in the 200 meters, Mitchell Klingler (Coldwater/Bronson) and Drew Fuentes (Grand Junction/Bangor) were the second and third runners to complete the 3,000 meters, Taylor Polzin (Sturgis) and Isaac Veysey-White (Quincy) produced 13 points in the 5,000 meters, Zach Cooper (Portland) and Alex Goricki (Ypsilanti/Lincoln) tacked on 10 points in the 60-meter hurdles, and Aaron Croad (Novi) and Kevin Whinnery (Northville/Farmington) contributed nine points in the mile run.
Weaver cruised to the win in the women’s mile, crossing the finish line more than 20 seconds ahead of her closest pursuer. Weaver also helped Albion collect 14 points in the 800, finishing fourth ahead of teammates Victoria Sochor (Portland), Megan Wickens (Livonia/Franklin), and Amanda Miley (Redford/Redford Union).
Kettle added an easy win in the 3,000 meters as she finished 42 seconds faster than the second-place runner. Emily Ten Eyck (Gregory/Stockbridge) contributed four points with a fifth-place finish.
Nelson won the triple jump with a leap of nearly 34 feet and she added a point in the long jump. Nicole Melcer (Drummond Island/DeTour) earned fourth place in the high jump and fifth place in the 60 meters.
