Weaver Achieves Record in Opening Track Meet

Amanda WeaverANDERSON, Ind. – Albion College coach Lance Coleman was excited by the performances his athletes turned in to open the season at the Raven Invitational.
Amanda Weaver, a junior from nearby Marshall, broke her school record in the 3,000 meters by nine seconds when she crossed the finish line in 10:31.04. Amanda Miley, a junior from Redford, was the second runner to complete the 3,000. Weaver also finished first in the 800, posting a time of 2:28.43.
Lauren Kettle, a first-year runner from Milford, won her first collegiate track race when she completed the mile in 5:18.57. Victoria Sochor and Megan Wickens followed Kettle by finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Sochor also finished fourth in the 800.
Effrem Grettenberger, a Lansing native, got his senior season underway with a win in the men’s 400. He edged the second-place performer by two-tenths of a second. Mike Ridley was fourth. The Albion men with seniors Carl Wharam and Drew Fuentes, junior Deion Pruitt, and sophomore Don Strite also placed first in the distance medley relay.
The best event of the night may have been the men’s 3,000 meters where Albion produced the top three finishers. Dylan Danowski was first to the finish (9:19.24), followed by Aaron Croad and Taylor Polzin.
Rose Seitz, a first-year runner from Spring Lake, won her heat of the 400 meters and she finished sixth overall with a time of 1:03.51.
Zach Cooper achieved a personal record of 8.73 seconds in a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, while Alex Goricki was eighth. Cooper was also part of Albion’s third-place finish in the 4x400 relay. He was joined by Ridley, Grettenberger, and Kevin Whinnery.
Jon Chinavare and Javaunte Mackson posted identical times of 23.98 to tie for fourth in the 200 meters.
In the jumping events, Tyler Miller tied for third in the long jump and held sole possession of third in the triple jump. Stacy Starr and Josh Lowe finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the high jump.
