Melpolder Swims to MIAA Athlete of the Week Award

Brad Melpolder, an Albion College sophomore, has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s Athlete of the Week in men’s swimming & diving, league publicist Greg Chandler announced Monday afternoon.

A product of Hamilton, Melpolder took first place in two events in the Britons’ 140-77 Jan. 28 dual meet loss to Calvin. He completed the 50-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 22.56 seconds, and posted another season-best in the 500-yard freestyle (5:03.54). He also swam a 51.70 split for Albion’s 400-yard medley relay team.

The men’s swimming & diving team has completed its dual meet schedule and is now looking toward the Feb. 15-18 MIAA Championships. The women’s swimming & diving team will be in action against Saint Mary’s College Feb. 4.
