Albion 57, Kalamazoo 51

» GAME STATISTICS

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – It seemed fitting when senior guard Sarah Caskey (Stockbridge/Stockbridge) stepped to the line for a pair of free throws with 22 seconds left in the game on Thursday evening at the Anderson Athletic Center. Earlier in the evening she had cemented herself into the Albion College women's basketball record books as the all-time leading scorer, at the end, however, she notched both free throws and helped preserve the Britons victory over Kalamazoo, 57-51.

Caskey, now the school's leading scorer with 1,233 points surpassed Melissa Washburn with a pair of free throws at 18:47 left in the second half. She finished the night with 13 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and three steals. It was the second double-double of the season for Caskey, who posted 20 points and 10 rebounds on Tuesday night against Alma College.

After Caskey knocked down the free throws to give the Britons a 54-51 lead, junior guard Kellyn Glynn (Rochester Hills/Adams) put the game on ice by converting a steal into a three-point play.

Leading the frontcourt of the Britons was second year forward Blair Meyer (Grand Rapids/Lowell) who notched a career-high 12 points and grabbed three rebounds. Also checking in with double-digits was junior guard Jaime Fornetti (Iron Mountain/Kingsford), netting 12 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor, and also pulling down six rebounds.

Senior guard Vanessa Thompson (Auburn Hills/Bloomfield Hills Lahser) and sophomore forward Ruthie Sventickas (South Lyon/Livonia Ladywood) each had five rebounds as the Britons outrebounded the Hornets 44-34.

Albion, now 13-1 overall and 5-0 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, broke the school record for consecutive wins, as the Britons have reeled off 10 wins in a row. The Britons will complete their busy week on Saturday, traveling to Tri-State for a 3:00 p.m. contest with the Thunder.
