Eric Clark is the second player from Albion to receive the Dr. Marvin Zuidema Award.Albion College senior midfielder Eric Clark capped his career by being tabbed for one of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s special awards in men’s soccer, and first-year forward Kyle Alsheskie was placed on the all-league second team.
The league coaches selected Clark as the recipient of the Dr. Marvin Zuidema Award which is presented to the senior who demonstrates team play, leadership, ethical virtues, and excellence in athletics and academics. A product of Bridgman who is majoring in biology and psychology, Clark was credited as a stabilizing influence on the squad. Clark joined Eric Johnson (2005) as Albion’s winners of the Zuidema award.
“Eric is a great representative for everything Marv stood for,” Albion Coach Jerry Block said. “Eric was a leader through his play on the field and he was our most consistent player in every match.”
Kyle AlsheskieAlsheskie, a Wixom native who prepped at Walled Lake Western High School, used his speed to break away from defenders. He was tied atop the team’s scoring ladder with five goals and an assist. He produced the game-winning goals against Manchester College in non-league play in September and in an October contest against league rival Olivet College.
“Other teams started to fear Kyle with his ability to get by defenders,” Block said. “The award bodes well for his future growth at Albion.”
