Koaches Leads Men's Golf to Good MIAA Start

Brent KoachesBrent KoachesBoosted by Brent Koaches' career-best round of 79 in a steady rain, the Albion College men's golf team got off to a good start in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action with a 330 total in the jamboree played Thursday at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall. Koaches and Dana Brooks, who also shot a 79 while playing as an individual, tied for second in the individual standings. Scott Merritt (80), Logan Hull (84), and Taylor Margolis (87) also contributed to Albion's team score.

Koaches' round featured a birdie on 13 and 11 pars.

"I really putted well and kept the course in front of me and that contributed to my second-place finish," Koaches said.

Merritt needed 37 strokes to complete the back nine and he finished tied for sixth in the team standings.

"We're off to a solid start, we have to keep it going because the MIAA season is a marathon," Albion Coach Jordan Rich said.

The second MIAA Jamboree is set for Saturday at the Pine River Country Club in Alma.
