Greenwood Reflects on East-West Shrine Game Experience

Albion College All-America cornerback Chris Greenwood continued his mission of leaving an impression on National Football League scouts when he started for the West squad in the Jan. 21 East-West Shrine Game in St. Petersburg, Fla.
The 2011 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Defensive Most Valuable Player who prepped at Martin Luther King High School in Detroit noted the event was a good experience.
“It was fun to get out and play football with a high level of competition,” Greenwood said via phone from New Jersey where he is training for upcoming pro days on campus sites. Everybody has a lot of talent at this level so a lot of time was spent on techniques because excelling at the little stuff helps you get farther. I was ready to soak up whatever the coaches had to teach me.
“I was told the practices were more important than the game itself and my week of practice was decent,” he added. “I received good feedback from the scouts about practice.”
Greenwood said the practice sessions were a whirlwind of activity featuring position specific drills and reviewing plays for the game. In addition to practice, the players spent time visiting children in the Shriners’ Hospital for Children in Tampa.
