Chris Greenwood leaves Albion as a three-time all-MIAA first team pick.WACO, Texas – The Albion College football program is celebrating its first All-America first team pick since 2000 as senior cornerback Chris Greenwood was placed on the American Football Coaches Association’s Division III squad. Greenwood adds the All-America award to a haul that includes the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s Defensive Most Valuable Player and D3football.com all-North Region.
A Detroit native who prepped at Martin Luther King High School, Greenwood did not disappoint the National Football League scouts who had been watching him closely all season. His statistics of 24 tackles and two interceptions do not indicate the impact Greenwood had on the field because teams were too intimidated to throw in his direction.
Greenwood was ready when opponents dared to throw his way. He jumped a sideline route and returned an interception 70 yards for the game-winning score in Albion’s 27-26 victory over Alma College. Greenwood returned four interceptions for touchdowns during his Briton career.
Greenwood’s teammates took advantage of having a side of the field shutdown as Albion tied for the MIAA lead with 15 interceptions.
“Chris has great individual talent but what makes him special is he blended with the team and did not seek the spotlight,” Albion Head Coach Craig Rundle said. “Chris is a big-time talent and I think he will have a chance to play in the National Football League. He is one of the most humble kids we have on the team.”
Albion defeated all of its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals to gain its 34th league championship. The Britons were the MIAA’s representative to the NCAA Division III Football Championship.
