Babcock, '06, Inspires on Triathlon Circuit

Deanna Babcock, '06, was twice selected as the Albion College women's cross country team's most inspirational runner. She was training for a triathlon in a pool when her heart stopped. Her left leg had to be amputated, but Babcock made the recovery, returned to triathlon and has qualified for the U.S. Paralympic Trials. Dan Myckowiak, '14, who holds a concentration in the Gerald R. Ford Institute for Leadership in Public Policy and Service, tells Babcock's inspirational story.

Men's Cross Country Designated As All-Academic Team

The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Thursday the 131 Division III men’s cross country teams to achieve All-Academic distinction. The Albion College squad, coached by Hayden Smith, ’70, gained the award for the 11th consecutive year. The Britons boast a 3.29 grade point average.

The Albion College women's cross country squad has been honored as an All-Academic team by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 11th consecutive year.

The Britons, coached by Hayden Smith, '70, boasts a 3.51 team grade point average. Lauren Kettle and Amanda Weaver were included on the USTFCCCA’s list of All-Academic performers released Feb. 10. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, Kettle and Weaver achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the most recent semester and placed in the top 35 at the NCAA Regional Championships.

Kettle, a first-year physics major from Milford, was an all-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association first team performer and she was the 16th runner to reach the finish line in the NCAA regional. Weaver, a junior from Marshall who is majoring in exercise science and psychological science, achieved all-MIAA second team status and she was the 22nd runner to finish the NCAA regional course.
