Three softball players named all-MIAA second team

Three Albion College first-year softball players – pitcher/shortstop Andrea English (Troy/Seaholm), outfielder Brenna Przeslawski (Harper Woods/Grosse Pointe North), and catcher/designated player Allison Smart (Manton/Manton) – have been voted to the all-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association second team, the league publicist announced Tuesday night. In addition, senior catcher Jenelle Vlcek (Dexter/Chelsea), sophomore first baseman Jaime Gove (Clarkston/Clarkston), and first-year pitcher Jenna Hogg (Flat Rock/Flat Rock) were added to the list of honorable mention players in the MIAA by the league coaches.
English started all 16 MIAA games and posted the league’s 10th highest batting average at .367. She also tied for fourth in sacrifice bunts with four. English rapped seven hits and drove in six runs in a doubleheader against Adrian College. As a pitcher, English posted a 5-3 record with a 2.64 ERA. She threw three complete game shutouts gaining victories over Kalamazoo College (three hits and four strikeouts), Saint Mary’s College (three hits, a walk, and three strikeouts), and Calvin College (six hits and 11 strikeouts).
Przeslawski, who hit .309 in league play, slugged a league-high four triples and tied for fourth in the MIAA with 14 runs scored, and ranked seventh in total bases with 30. She had five multi-hit games, including 3-for-4 performances in the first game against Adrian and the second game against Kalamazoo.
Smart broke into Albion’s starting lineup for the final nine league games and she finished the season with a five-game hitting streak. She played in 12 MIAA contests and had six multi-hit games including three hits in the nightcap against Saint Mary’s College and the first game at Hope College. Smart batted .500 in MIAA contests with four doubles, a triple, a homerun and nine runs batted in.
