Adams achieves all-MIAA status for fourth time

Michaela Adams was named all-MIAA for the fourth time
Michaela Adams finished her collegiate softball career as a four-time all-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association selection as she gained a place on the second team, the league publicist announced Wednesday. Adams led the MIAA in innings pitched, and she ranked among the league leaders in strikeouts. Seniors Katie Kelly and Jessica Possehn along with junior Jenelle Vlcek were among the names added by the coaches to the list of honorable mention players in the MIAA.

The coaches of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association have spoken and Albion College senior pitcher Michaela Adams (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) has been added to their list of second team all-MIAA scholar-athletes. It is the fourth straight year that Adams has been so honoredÃ??as she was a first team honoree in 2002 and a second team recipient in 2003 and 2004.

Adams ranked high in the MIAA this season in strikeouts, innings pitched, and earned run average. She was first in the league with 64 and 1/3 innings pitched, third in strikeouts, fanning 51, and ninth with a 2.61 earned run average.

Adams has been a staple of the Briton pitching rotation for four years, a career in which she has posted some impressive numbers. She finished her career just shy of 400 strikeouts as she ended with 397 KÃ??s in all games played. In MIAA play Adams ended her career with 173 strikeouts, good enough for fourth place on the career strikeout list. She also finished tied for fifth place in most decisions as she compiled a 20-13 record in MIAA games.

For her career Adams garnered a 1.81 ERA over 474 innings pitched.

Seniors Katie Kelly (Plymouth/Salem) and Jessica Possehn (Lake Odessa/Lakewood) along with junior Jenelle Vlcek (Dexter/Chelsea) were among the names added by the coaches to the list of honorable mention players in the MIAA.

Albion finished its season 18-18 overall and 5-11 in the MIAA.
