School records fall on the second day at Wheaton

WHEATON, Ill. – Senior John Fodell (Grosse Pointe/South) lowered his school record and reached a NCAA Division III Championship “B” qualifying time in the 200-yard breaststroke and was a member of the school record setting 200-yard medley relay team, first-year athlete Paul Krone (Cincinnati, Ohio/Cincinnati Country Day) was the runner-up in the 1,650-yard freestyle, and junior Lisa Colville (DeWitt/DeWitt) lowered her school record in the 200-yard breaststroke for the second time this year as the top Albion College swimmers wrapped up two days of competition at the Wheaton College Invitational.
Fodell was third in the championship final of the breaststroke. He touched the wall in 2:07.74, lowering the school record time of 2:07.86 he set last year. Fodell teamed up with junior Chase Bacon (Novelty, Ohio/Hawken School), senior A.J. Dancho (Belleville/Belleville), and first-year athlete Ryan Gunderson (Grosse Pointe/South) for a record time of 1:36.91 in the medley relay. The old school standard of 1:37.33 was established during the 1993-94 season.
Krone’s time in the distance freestyle was 16:27.91.
Bacon surged to a sixth place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, posting a time of 52.12 seconds. Dancho was 14th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.40 seconds.
The Briton women were represented by Colville and sophomore Lindsay Davis (Saginaw/Heritage). Colville’s time in the breaststroke was 2:32.08 which was good for seventh place in the event. Davis was 14th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.45 seconds.
The entire Albion swimming & diving team will now take a break to concentrate on the end of the semester and final examinations. The Britons will return to competition with meets in the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., area to ring in the new year.
